BTE Student Stories
BTE Lancaster held its final two sessions in April and May, completing its 3-year pilot program. In April, MANTEC, a private, nonprofit manufacturing resource center, presented a hands-on STEM activity where students learned about process improvement, supply and demand, and deadlines. The May session was the final day of the program, and a wonderful celebration of students’ accomplishments and future plans. Students enjoyed lunch, BTE Lancaster staff announced the scholarship winners, and students received certificates and gift cards before a field trip to Round One for games and sports challenges.
Since completing the pilot program, BTE Lancaster is partnering with the Big Brothers Big Sisters of America (BBBS), a nationally recognized mentoring program, and the School District of Lancaster to create a 2.0 version of the BTE program. Site Coordinator Andrew Garner brought BBBS and the school district together to create a sustainable program that will continue to fulfill students’ needs. The one-year program will meet once a month after school and will be targeted at the 10th grade level. BBBS will provide mentors from local STEM employers to support the students and assist with programming, as well as provide mentoring curriculum and training for mentoring. Site Coordinator Andrew will also assist as the liaison and support with programming resources and partnerships.
Congratulations to BTE Lancaster for completing three years with Bridge to Employment! We know you have gained the skills and experience you need to do amazing things as you take the next steps in your education and career.
