BTE Student Stories
Meet Zavia Rangi-Dixon and Cheylen Davis! Zavia and Cheylen are the 2019 Student Ambassadors from Auckland, New Zealand.
Zavia is a senior at James Cook High School and currently serves as a peer mentor at her school. As a peer mentor, Zavia mentors students and promotes her school’s values through teaching. She is also a member of the James Cook Kapa Haka group. As a member, she enjoys performing in Polyfest each year, which is one of the largest Polynesian events worldwide. Overall, Zavia enjoys being a leader and helping others. After high school, she plans on entering the Defense Force or pursuing higher education.
Zavia is interested in attending ABTS because…
“I want to gain more experience outside of New Zealand and see what other cities have to offer. I also want to take my culture in hopes of teaching others and expanding it, so it doesn’t become a dying language.”
Cheylen spends her time volunteering and enjoys playing for James Cook High School’s rugby team where she became this year’s player of the year! Cheylen is passionate about traveling and connecting with other individuals around the globe.
Cheylen is interested in attending ABTS because…
“It would be an unreal thing for me to get the opportunity to represent my country in this programme across the world. My goal is to take back what I have learnt to share with my friends and family as well as leaving my mark in America and with the ABTS conference.”
