BTE Student Stories
Bridge to Employment is proud to spotlight BTE-Phoenixville. In September 2016, Johnson & Johnson and Phoenixville Area High School launched a BTE program for 50 youth. Throughout the three-year program, the partners provided a variety of academic enrichment, career exploration, and higher education preparation opportunities.
College Visits to Penn State University, Villanova University, and Kutztown University
BTE-Phoenixville seniors visited three colleges in the fall: Penn State University, Villanova University, and Kutztown University. They stopped on the tour of Penn State University to take a picture in front of the famous campus building, “Old Main.”
Improv Workshop
Representatives from ComedySportz Philadelphia led an interactive and fun improv workshop for the BTE-Phoenixville students focusing on building self-confidence, interpersonal communication, and handling difficult conversations.
Career Study Opportunity
Twelve BTE-Phoenixville students participated in Phoenixville Area High School’s Career Study opportunity. Students gained career experience through 3-week unpaid internships at local companies and organizations. Seven of the twelve BTE-Phoenixville students completed their internships through J&J company DePuy Synthes, or J&J affiliated company, LifeScan. On the last day, students gave presentations about their experiences to BTE-Phoenixville Career Coaches.
BTE- Phoenixville Graduation Event
On May 31, 2019, the BTE-Phoenixville cohort celebrated their graduation celebration. Students, Career Coaches, parents, high school and college administrators, and more came together to celebrate the students’ 3-year commitment to Bridge to Employment and their impending high school graduation. Students received certificates of completion and special “Bridge to Employment Graduate” pins that were placed on their high school graduation stoles.
