BTE Student Stories

In October 2023, Johnson & Johnson officially launched the BTE Atlanta, Georgia site. In partnership with Janssen CVM, Georgia Institute of Technology, Morehouse College School of Medicine, and four secondary schools within the Atlanta community, this site got right to work (and play) supporting participants as they explore education and career paths.

BTE participants took a field trip to the Tellus Science Museum in November, exploring hands-on exhibits, participating in science activities, and bonding with their peers over their shared curiosity and love of discovery.

As Kaiya Mitchell, a site coordinator from the Georgia Institute of Technology, shares, “Experiences like this are so valuable for sparking a passion for STEM in our scholars.”

In December, BTE Atlanta continued to foster this STEM passion through a series of optics-related activities. Two guest speakers from Johnson & Johnson Accuvue shared their experiences in vision and sales, including challenges they’ve faced and how they found success in their careers. Then, students dove into the science of a pig eye and got a close-up experience thanks to two scientists from Clearside Bio. Finally, students were able to put their vision to the test at the Museum of Optical Illusions, an interactive exhibit that challenged their perception and allowed them to experience first-hand the complexities of human vision.

BTE Atlanta is off to an exciting start – we can’t wait to see what students learn next!
