BTE Student Stories

To kick off the fall semester, students from BTE Atlanta participated in a day full of activities with the support of the Georgia Institute of Technology and Johnson & Johnson.

The day began with the opportunity for students to complete the Birkman assessment, a tool designed to reveal their unique strengths and potential career pathways. This was an eye-opening experience for students, showing them how their skills and personalities align with various STEM careers. While some students worked through the assessment, others joined mentoring pods with Johnson & Johnson professionals who provided firsthand insights into the opportunities that await in the STEM fields.

Students then gathered to listen to guest speaker Winnifer Thomas-Cox from Accenture, a global professional services company that assists clients in innovating with technology and AI. Her stories detailing her academic and career journey were inspiring to students, sparking curiosity and motivation among the group.  One student shared, “It’s made me more focused on going to a STEM-based college and now I know there are so many different paths I could take.”

After lunch and a break to recharge and reflect, Georgia Tech’s Office of Undergraduate Admissions led a presentation that painted a picture of life as a Georgia Tech student, giving students a clear vision of their futures and the steps needed to reach them. The day concluded with a visit to Georgia Tech’s Campus Recreation Center, where students were able unwind and connect with peers in a fun environment.

In an effort to share and capture these memorable experiences, BTE Atlanta has been proactive in documenting each event, ensuring that the Georgia Tech community also remains informed and engaged. This year, communications has improved significantly with new platforms helping to keep BTE families connected and informed.

Reflecting on the program’s impact, a representative from Johnson & Johnson said, “This approach gives students a positive experience in a college environment, making Georgia Tech a more familiar place.” Each activity, mentor interaction, and speaker engagement solidifies a future that feels tangible and achievable for these young minds.

As BTE students navigate this journey, they become more aware of the multitude of pathways that STEM careers offer, each step bringing them closer to realizing their potential. For these students, Georgia Tech and Johnson & Johnson have become not only educational resources, but supportive communities that shape their dreams into reality.
