BTE Student Stories
Bridge to Employment – Mumbai (BTE) is the first of its kind in India. The program aims to support education by helping at-risk students build solid futures by introducing them to a broad array of careers, especially in healthcare, and by providing them with enhanced academic and real world experiences.
Working with students age 13-16, BTE-Mumbai provides intensive training for students to improve their academic achievement, while learning about potential careers. The connection to Johnson & Johnson, with company visits and job shadowing, is unique in India.
BTE has helped students build soft skills, social skills, and a new perspective on science. Parents report that the students are more confident. The students have improved communication skills, and have developed good manners and correct etiquette.
Activities like Antarchakshu, an orientation to St. Xavier’s College and the Resource Centre for the Visually Challenged, guided by Johnson & Johnson employees, give students an idea of what jobs in healthcare careers might look like. Future activities include company tours, career talks, job shadowing, and readers club.
