The Cordis, a Johnson & Johnson company, in collaboration with North Miami Beach Senior High School, the Greater Miami Chamber of Commerce, the Jobs and Education Partnership Regional Board, the South Florida Employer Training Consortium, Barry University, University of Miami, and Miami-Dade Community College BTE partnership provided teacher and student learning opportunities that enhanced student knowledge of and entry into the biomedical industry.
Students and teachers participated in a summer internship experience at Cordis, working in core areas, including project planning, operations, and research. Partner institutions of higher education also hosted summer enrichment activities, including basic training and equipment exploration in biomedical labs for students. For their participation, BTE students earned up to nine college credits towards an Associate in Science degree in Biomedical Engineering Technology.
Cordis engineers reviewed the Anatomy and Physiology curriculum and suggested where Cordis staff, scientific experiments, and relevant materials could be infused to create a seamless learning experience and align academics with industry.
