Vistakon, a Johnson & Johnson company, joined with the Jacksonville Chamber of Commerce and A. Phillip Randolph High School’s Health Academy to cultivate the connection between academic and work-place learning in the health care field. Through the BTE-Jacksonville partnership, students participated in workplace tours, job shadowing, Career World events, internships, academic (math and science) enrichment, and soft skills workshops (communication, leadership, teamwork, etc.).
In addition, teachers had the opportunity to participate in two-day externships at Vistikon and seven other businesses in Duval County. These externships, which included workplace tours and peer mentoring, provided the foundation for the development of career-relevant and applied-learning curriculum.
