A proud Pathway to Success alumnus, JT is now a Mechanical Engineer and Program Manager at Q.E.D. Systems Inc., where he has been working since graduating from Widener University in May 2023. His career path reflects both the technical skills he developed in college and the personal growth he gained through the Pathways program.

Pathways played a central role in JT’s academic journey, introducing him to the intersection of engineering and the medical field. With support from the program—especially the mentors he encountered along the way—he was encouraged to explore different career directions, build confidence, and expand his professional network. These connections, along with workshops tailored to his cohort, gave him insight into the working world and helped him stay focused on both academic and personal goals.

Among the many opportunities offered, JT found the money management seminars, resume building workshops, and interview skills sessions to be the most valuable. These experiences strengthened his job readiness, helped him approach interviews with confidence, and gave him practical tools for managing his finances after graduation.

Like many students, JT faced challenges along the way. At one point, he fell behind in his major course requirements and worried about completing his degree on time. With guidance from Pathways, he was able to identify options to make up the credits and get back on track, ultimately graduating with his class in 2023.

His internship with Johnson & Johnson’s DePuy Synthes Trauma Nailing Technology R&D team further shaped his professional outlook. While working on medical device design and applying his CAD skills, JT gained valuable technical experience but also discovered that a remote role and the medical device industry were not the best fit for him long-term. This realization helped him focus on pursuing in-person opportunities where he feels his contributions have a direct impact.

Looking back, JT says his biggest takeaway from Pathways is the importance of taking advantage of every opportunity. Even experiences that don’t lead to a direct career path provide clarity on what truly excites you. His advice to current students reflects that same mindset. “Try anything and everything you can while still in college, even if it doesn’t seem like the right fit at first. Don’t be afraid to fail, because failing is the best teacher and opens the door to more solutions,” he advises future students.
